Report on Jan Meeting

Hi. Thanks to all those who attended the meeting last Thursday despite the poor weather. Our local councillors were unable to attend they were supporting a youth service event . We missed their banter.

Ian chaired the meeting and as usual we had to keep him in order. Reports and discussions were as follows:-  Holbeck in Bloom , A volunteer day is arranged for 7th March when working with Groundworks it is envisaged we will be helping to buid raised beds  on land behind the Holbeck Community Centre. This work when completed will provide a resource for members of The Bridge a group with learning difficulties who meet at the centre Mondays through till Fridays. POST OFFICE , As a group we decided to lobby the council relating to the use of the old library premises on Domestic Street. A letter will be drafted supporting the move of the local post office from its present position on a back street in Holbeck into the empty premises on Domestic Street. It is hoped that by moving into the Library premises there will be a greater footfall making the business more sustainable and more accessible to the residents and businesses. An application to take over the council owned premises has now been with the council department for about a year with seemingly no decision being made. Hopefully our letter of support will ‘wake them up’. Parking , Concern was expressed about the congestion caused at the junction of Brown Lane East and Domestic Street on match days.  The police were asked to look into providing traffic cones at this location where the entrance to Brown Lane is narrow. Police, PCSO Sam Wilson reported that crime over the Christmas period was down within the Holbeck district, although some cars had been damaged whilst parked up on match days. The Christmas Market organised to help raise funds for the Gala and the Carol Service organised by the Mosaic Church were both successful with more attendees than in previous years and the comments of those attending were very favourable. The group expressed an interesat in celebration the Queen’s Jubilee. It was decided that at our next meeting an invite to other local groups and organisations would be issued so that we could if possible organise an event that would help mark this achievement by our Sovereign . Our meeting also covered other subjects , Bin Yards, Beggers Hill Play Ground, Holbeck Moor Skate Board Park , PFI Scheme, Finance.  The next  meeting will be on Thursday 16th February 7.00pm at Cleveleys Court .
